Description
For this project we learned a lot about women in history and how they were important. We were put in groups of about three then we were assigned a women to research. After we learned more about who they were and what they did we got to present it on either a poster or an art piece. My group made a poster that included a limerick style poem for each of our women. My woman's name was Margaret Corbin. During this mini project we were also reading a chapter in the book A Peoples History of the United States that was focused on women and how they were seen including what rights they had and what they stood for. After we all finished our posters we got to go around and learn about other women then fill out sheets about it. (Below is my groups poster)
Explanation of PosterFor our poster we did a mash up of all of our women. The head was of a women names Deborah. She was a women who pretended to be a man and fought in the war so that is why we made her winking. The torso is of a Margret Corbin with an injured/missing arm because when she went to war with her husband, He was killed so she stepped up in his place and injured her arm and could not really use it for the rest of her life. The legs of this woman represents Molly Pitcher. The hole in her skirt represents how while she was fighting the war a cannon ball went between her legs and didn't kill her because it missed everything.

Margaret Corbin was orphaned at five
Her husband died but she was alive She fought in his place and was great Her left arm suffered its ultimate fate A forever home is where she would thrive |
After this mini project one big questions we had was why were the women seen as less than man? From what we read they basically say that the woman basically do everything like take care of the children, teach them, care for the house etc. yet they still aren't enough. Woman basically hold things together but they are treated like they are useless and it makes no sense because they raised everyone and that's a very important job for someone they think is inferior. Maybe at that time a lot of people had that stuck in their heads so it seemed ideal to them or they probably had no choice. They were all trying to be activist for women's rights and change things so that they were better for women. I don't think things will ever be completely equal because some women and men will probably always see each other as different in some ways. If I could do this project again I would make the poster neater and make sure I contribute more such as helping color the poster and help solidify our ideas we had.
